The New Testament and its Jewish beginning

The New Testament, as gentiles call it, is actually rejected by Jews. In fact, the word New Testament, is somewhat of a misnomer, as it implies that there is an old (or inferior) testament. The fact is that before what is now commonly referred to as the New Testament was written, there was simply the Torah (or the five original books, namely Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy). These five books are nowadays referred to as the Old Testament by gentiles.

The term New Testament was only created by gentiles to contrast these new writings from the long pre-existing Torah. Meanwhile, gentiles also created the term Old Testament to differentiate these five books from the New Testament that they had created.

The existence of these terms (Old Testament & New Testament) is kind of analagous to calling Native Americans Indians. The fact is that they were called Indians erroneously and even though these peoples were "discovered" they obviously existed long before the term was used to describe them. In other words, the Old Testament (or Torah) existed long before the New Testament, and moreover the term Old Testament was never used to describe the Torah prior to the introduction of the New Testament. Even today, Jews do not use the term Old Testament to refer to the original five books.
