I have recently gotten married and went through the process of finding the right wedding photographer. Some of the best advice I can give you is to hire a professional. It is very important to never allow a relative or friend perform this task.
You will want to take your time with this process. I know that we attended just about every bridal show in the area for one year prior to getting married. My bride to be gave me the responsibility of finding the entertainment and the photographer. I spoke to and interviewed countless photographers' and the following information is how I decided who to hire.
First, you want to meet the photographer who will be working the wedding. This is especially true when working with a firm. Most firms have a few photographers to choose from. Look at the photographers previous portfolios to get an idea of the types of pictures they've taken. Price is always important. Find out if there is a set number of pictures taken or a time limit with the package. You don't want to miss out on something special because your photographer had to leave because his time was up. So, my advice is to hire for the duration of the event. You don't want him or her to leave you with nothing. So, if there is a print limit, then move on.
Quality of work. Making sure that your photographer is a good quality one. One who has the experience. You don't want a new photographer to be working your wedding. Have them meet you at the church prior to the ceremony that way they can plan where to stand and shoot. Show them the reception hall. This way they can have a strategic plan. You don't want them to have to go in without a game plan.
A good quality photographer will tell you what he or she has planned. They will have a list of shots that they will take. After that they will be ready for all that might happen. Sometimes they might even have another photographer work with them. This way it is possible to catch more. Because this is the most important day of your life. You don't want to lose your memories. I know that I will never forget mine. I hope that you now have the ability to interview and hire a photographer for your special event. You should be able to do so without having to worry about if he or she will be capturing the memories that you will cherish forever. So, head on out to the next bridal show and start interviewing prospective photographers. Good Luck!
