I personally believe that you should always use positive reinforcement when training your dog. Dogs are so eager to please their master there really is no need for anything else. Dogs tend to do whatever works best for them and if they have a person loving them then the possibilities on what they will learn is endless.
Always talk in an upbeat excited voice when teaching your dog and they will respond with the same sense of excitement. Dogs love to be praised and need rules and guidance just the same as children do.
There is no need to attend training classes to make a dog sociable and well behaved. Dogs are naturally sociable if you teach them who to be sociable with and it honestly does not take much. Just a positive attitude and a lot of tender love and care and you will have the friend of a lifetime. One that will stand by your side through thick and through thin and will behave with a loving attitude. When you start to train a dog or a puppy there is really just one basic law and that is that dogs will only do things that produce a pleasant consequence and will repeat these but to those that do not produce the pleasant consequence they will not repeat the action.
I feel that an animal can pick up on the actions and the feelings of his master and you never want to be aggressive with your animal so in turn he will never think that being aggressive is a normal and acceptable action or reaction. Remember that a little bit of praise can go a long way in teaching your pet the way you want him to behave, and also a little aggression can go a long way in teaching him the wrong way to behave. We never want our animal to be aggressive so therefore if we never teach him to do it we will not have a problem with it. Only loving praise and he will thrive to it.
Initially puppies have little control over them selves but do wish to make their master happy with their actions. It will of course take some time but you have to be consistent and always try to keep your pet on a regular routine and he/she will learn more quickly than you ever dreamed possible.
Some people say that training your pet is like training your child and I have to agree. You call your child to supper, and you do the same with your pet. So you would never yell or hit your child and your child learns well, the same goes for your pet. Give them the same love and guidance and positive feedback and reinforcement as you would your child and they will grow to be wonderful pets.
