Our Macabre Hero is back.

Dexter Morgan who thinks he had finally perfected faking human emotions was tested by Sergeant Doakes, the only person who had seem to have a clue about Dexter's inner monster ever since book 1 (Darkly Dreaming Dexter).

Doakes had been openly stalking Dexter every day, leaving Dex no choice but to lie low in his "full-moon night-outs". Nights where Dex would hunt for his deserving prey...those who deserve to die under his code...the code thought by his Daddy Harry. But now that Doakes has his eyes on him, he have to set aside that inner monster that he have for the mean time.

Well, at least he now got something different that would keep him from thinking about his "night-outs". A new monster is out in town. Dex was once again forced by foster sister Deborah to help her solve this new case. This time, the victims where amputated by some Dr. Danco who apparently is seeking revenge to his buddies during his military service. The horrible thing about it is, the victims are not totally dead, they are technically still alive but their hands, feet, tongue ...were "beautifully" amputated making them some sort of useless individuals.

Things were a little bit too much for Miami cops to handle, that's why Kyle Chatsky from Washington D. C. was sent to investigate. He and Deborah later on fell in love with each other which was a wonder to Dex. Kyle however was also captured by Danco which left Doakes, Dex and Deb to solve the case. With Deb being ruled by emotion, Doakes and Dex had no choice but to team-up. But Doakes turned out to be 1 of those people Danco is seeking revenge with. Dex was torn between helping Doakes so they could solve the case or letting him die so no one will stalk him again. Will he help Doakes or give in to his inner desire of having his freedom back? Or will Debbie be mourning for Kyle or will Kyle turn out as one of those useless masterpiece of Dr. Danco?

Dearly Devoted Dexter, the 2nd book of the Dexter series. I've watched the TV version of this book and was actually surprise that the series had made a 180 degrees turn from the story. I think I found the series fascinating more but Jeff have his own way of explaining the bizarre world of Dexter. As to how Dexter struggled to be as normal as possible.

I could say that Dexter is one of the best character any thriller/suspense author had ever made.

Still One-Bloody-Masterpiece!
