Puerto Pollensa, Mallorca is a beautiful and peaceful city on the northwest coast of the island of Mallorca (also known as Majorca). Mallorca is the largest island of Spain and is located in the Mediterranean Sea to the east of Spain and part of the Balearic Islands. The island is mountainous with a temperate, Mediterranean climate and boasts many resorts and attractions. One of the most popular destinations is Puerto Pollensa.
Puerto Pollensa lies on the opposite end of the island from Palma and Son Saint Joan International Airport, but the drive across country will allow you to see the beautiful landscapes and mountainous vistas of this fantastic island. In fact the town of Puerto Pollensa is surrounded by the grand and majestic Sierra de Tramuntana mountain range. If you enjoyed the views from these mountains on the trip from the airport, there are many trails and walks that will give you breathtaking views back over the town and the bay of Pollensa.
If you don't want to drive to the resort, there are always plenty of taxis at the airport and they should operate on a fixed price basis. Make sure you ask about the fare to the resort before getting in the taxi. Of course, be fair and flexible if you have a great deal of luggage, are part of a large party, or other considerations, such as weather and time of night. If you are traveling with small children, you may want to arrange in advance for a car equipped with a child seat, as many taxis are not equipped with these.
There are many beautiful resorts in Puerto Pollensa, as this lovely northwestern bay has become a hot tourist destination. There are several natural beaches and a large man made beach which features water sports of all kinds. There is also many boats harbored there, some of which can be chartered for fishing and sightseeing. There are also glass bottom boats available for watching the varied and colorful sea life in the bay. The waters off the coast are warm and shallow, making it great for swimming and snorkeling.
Close by is the old town of Pollensa, with its ancient architecture and narrow streets. It makes a great day trip for sightseeing and photography. Also nearby in the town of Alcudia there is a water park and other attractions suited for a day with the children. Mostly, the area is a quiet and peaceful retreat from the everyday and a great destination for relaxing on the beach.
