I think all kids should at least watch the news once in awhile I don't agree with ALL the shows at there but they need to know what is going on in the world. They will be entering it when they grow up and get out on their own and if they don't know what's going on then they are pretty much just going to be flopping around like fish out of water.

I think they should have a "street smart" class in schools just to get the kids ready for the bad people in this world who are waiting for them to get away from their parents. Parents should take one as well I was brought up knowing street smarts but as I got older and started to live an adult life I kinda fell out of the loop and my kids started knowing more than I did so that was a little eye opening. I found myself having to ask them what certain things meant, they told me but not without laughing at the fact that I had no clue. It didn't bother me I like to be current so that I know what they are talking about and can converse with them.

Some Tv shows I don't even want to see the real gorey ones really disturb me I agree that eductional one's can be very beneficial to children. Nature shows as well can be very interesting and could even spur the urge to work with animals in the future. The science channel is wonderful for teaching children things about the world around them, how things work and what chemicals do this or that. Those kind of channels can actually help children with their homework. Some might think that knowing what is going on in the world might scare some children or young adults but that's why they have you as parents to help them understand things that go on in this world, good or bad.

They can also learn about global warming and ways they can prevent hurting the world so it will be in a better shape when they grow up and have children. Children have wonderful ideas about fixing things that are wrong in the world and helping others survive but they will never know how bad things are unless they know what's going on and TV can be a good thing as long as parents screen out what they don't want their children to see. We can't always be in our children's back pockets if they want to watch TV they will do so at other people's houses or even in school they show TV news articles so I don't think TV can be completely avoided. Like I said some of it is not healthy but we have tools to help us protect our children from some of the shows out there that we don't want them to see.
