This spring brings some interesting fashion to the men's corner. While the basics remain similar to previous seasons, there are some distinct unique accents emerging this year. In the more extreme side we'll see many exotic and colorful looks, and towards the more mainstream end of the spectrum there will be subtle, yet decidedly different touches in all aspects of styles.
Dressed up Looks Although there are some changes in the cut, the look for men's suits this year is staying with the slim shape. It's a mix of the classic tailoring and modern masculine silhouette, the broad shoulders and slim waist. The same goes for the double-breasted suits. Think of the suits in the 50's and 60's but with a modern touch.
Another suit trend emerging this year is the waistcoat. Look for pieces that have a V-shape that cuts off around the end of the ribcage. This helps to maintain the slim look of the whole suit. Also try to buy it in a material and color matching your suit, or even better, buy it as part of the whole suit. In other words, get the whole three-piece suit together. Another way to wear the waistcoat is pared with the suit pan and tie, sans jacket. It can look elegant and trendy at the same time.
Casual Looks This year there's a tendency towards eastern looks with Asian and Oriental accents. Vivid colors with a relaxed cut will be quite prevalent this spring. The look is very chick, but loose and sloppy at the same time which makes for a certain sexy flair. Silks and linens will be materials often seen in most men's lines as well as soft cottons and other natural fabrics.
For those that prefer the subtle impact, there are the everyday looks that consist of regular khakis, jeans and polos. This year the pants have a straight leg and can be seen worn with the classic converse sneakers. Casual deconstructed blazers complete the look.
V-necks, suit shorts, blazers and trench coats are also very big this season. Cashmere is a returning trend for the spring as well and looks great paired with chino or suit shorts to make a casual, but clean look. White breezy shirts are big this season as well. They look great with anything from jeans to shorts or even with loose linen or cotton pants, for the distinctive Mediterranean fashion.
These are some of the most prevalent looks for the 2009 Spring Season. But of course, being that we are talking men's styles here, for the non-fashion-inclined guys out there, the ever-fashionable jeans and t-shirt never go out of style and always get a pass no matter what the trends may be.
