Poetry: The road I've traveled

The Road

-

A stranger stopped me one day,

As I traveled down a very narrow winding road,

He asked of me, "Don't you know me?

I've helped you before to carry your load.

-

There was a day when you where hot and tired and sore,

The pains had set in, and you could hardly travel anymore.

I had taken upon myself your heavy load.

I carried it down a very similar winding road.

-

For days we traveled for many a mile.

I heard you laugh, and joke and smile.

We were friends along the path we walked, side by side.

We shared and we talked, there was nothing to hide.

-

You said I made your journey easier; there was joy in your walk.

I loved the times when all we did was sit and talk.

I watched you admire the wind, the song in the air.

You thanked me that I had come along, that I was there."

-

Slowly I watched as a tear came to his eye.

My own were watering, as I started to cry.

My friend, my friend, here is my load.

Will you help me once more to carry it?

And come..

Let us walk on down the road
