Poetry: Heartbreaker

The Death of Love

I sit here at the edge of the sea
Feeling it's the end of the world
Letting all my feelings out
With my heart unfurled

My love for him has taken
A last and mortal blow
For when faith and trust have disappeared
Love has no where to go

He abandoned me without a word
Anger was his only friend
He left me alone without a care
It was the beginning of the end

He told his friends I was special
But to me said not a word
Just silence for days on end
No reason to feel assured

I watched as he stole another's work
He took praise for what wasn't his
And then, when caught, he wriggled out
With twisted words, so glib

With every lie, I trusted less
He'd planted seeds of doubt
How could I love a dishonest man?
How did this come about?

He'd promised me a future bright
Hold my hand, he said
Now I've come to realize
That the love is dead

And so, I sit at the edge of the sea
And stare at my empty hands
And let my love, with my tears,
Bleed slowly into the sand.
