This month I turned fifty-six years of age. The thing about getting older, at least for me is that mentally I don't feel any older. I still like and want a lot of the things I liked and wanted when I was in my twenties and thirties. I still like to read comic books, watch cartoons and look at pretty young girls. However, physically I can't do a lot of the things I did in my twenties and thirties and that basically comes from not keeping up with the physical activities I did back at that age.
People think that men are going through a mid life crisis if they start dating younger women or they get a sports car, but I can tell you from experience that's a lot of bull. As men we have always want those things and if we have a chance to get them we take that chance. It's not about going through a mid life crisis, it's about, just because I'm older doesn't mean I just stopped wanting those things.
I'm not saying I have any of those things. My lady friend is actually older than I am and I don't really like sports cars and never had. But what I am saying is that if I wasn't dating anyone already and I had a chance to date a pretty young twenty-five year old, I would do it and it's not because I'm older and a twenty-five year girl would make me feel younger. It's because at any stage of my life I would have done the same thing because that's what I like. I didn't just start wanting twenty-five year girls when I got older.
People say you are as old as you feel and that is a state of mind. I feel younger then I am and I do things that a lot of people my age wouldn't do. They would say it's childish and immature and I must agree some of the things I do are childish and immature, but it's what I like to do. We must also keep in mind that age is also a state of body and that as we get older we can't do some of the physical things we feel like doing or use to do in our twenties.
When I was younger I use to like to run and although I can do some running I can't run like I use to, I have tried. As we get older our bodies change. It slows down and gets weaker and try as you will you can't change that.
You are as old as you feel. Always keep that state of mind. But, also be mindful that your body is as old as you are.
