Arne Duncan is the perfect choice for Secretary of Education for children in the present and for the future in America. He has a passion for education and to do all he can for every child irregardless of what home environment he or she comes from. He cannot fix everything but he has the smarts and will never give up on any child because he has faith in every child and demands accountability of those who provide that education.
In the US, most of the obstacles in getting a good education for boys and girls are sociological. The Secretary of Education has a Sociology Degree from Harvard which has been a mecca for educational training for decades. Those who have been in the educational field know that. Students have benefited tremendously from the educational philosophy and teaching methods of Harvard. Duncan has a total perspective of a child and of society. He also received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Lake Forest College.

He has made radical changes in the system for the better including charter schools as an option which worked. Chicago also has some of the best private schools in the country. He is open to innovation and flexibility to come up with the best educational option for every student. For some it is the private school. For some it may be homeschooling.
Duncan comes from a scholarly family in fields which study human beings. His father was a Psychology Professor in the University of Chicago. He may still be still teaching. What makes a child do or not what is best for him or her is central to motivation. There is only so much one can do to stimulate the external learning environment. Motivation must come from within. The child must choose to learn. The best of teachers and lessons cannot make the child learn.
Growing up in Hyde Park broadened his perspective of young people in America. He volunteered in the children center, an after school program his mother directed. Through tutoring he learned how so many kids go to school but learn so little. He understood what obstacles they had and what needed to be done.
"The Values, Aspirations, and Opportunities of the Urban Underclass," was the title of his thesis. He is the advocate for every child in inner city. They want the same thing as the kids in the suburbs. Each child wants to succeed and be the very best he or she can and contribute
