Reflections: Love

Love is everything

Everything a person could ever want is love, the simplest thing to give and receive. Love is the one thing in which everyone in the world would fight and risk everything for, it is what everyone needs. It can even take a person to the extreme, like, taking in a child when a person is not even able to take care of themselves, or even convert them into another religion to be with the one they love. This is what Jessica, Cossette and Jean Val Jean did for love; each fought, risked and even left their lives behind to be with the people they love.

"Love is everything it's cracked up to be . . . it is really worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for." This love quote is from Erica Jong, a well known novelist and poet. This quote relates quite a bit to Jessica, Cossette and Jean Val Jean. Jessica, a Jewish girl from the novel The Merchant of Venice, ran away with her love and changed her religion from a Jew to a Christian. Her father Shylock was against her being with a Christian because of what and how the Christians treated him. She loved the man so much to the point that she ran away in the middle of the night and converted herself to a Christian, just so that she could be by her lover's side. Love can make people do things in which they could never imagine to do, just like what Jessica did when she ran away with her lover. To Jessica it was worth risking everything in her life to be with the one she loved. She risked her life and left all that she knew behind for love because it is worth it all in the end. Just like what she did for love, Cossette refused to listen to her father in seeing the man she loved. Cossette, an average girl from the novel Les Miserables, that did not understand much about the world around her, fell in love with a common, poor boy; just like Jessica from The Merchant of Venice. This common, poor boy's love for Cossette revealed to her of how love in fact felt like from another person other than her own father Jean Val Jean. It also made her do things in which she never did, like, go against her father's orders of to never see the boy again. The more her father restricted her from seeing the boy, the more she wanted to explore and feel love from another person like Jessica. It changed her ways of how life really feels like when a person is in love; for the first time, besides her father loving her, she finally felt the touch and love of a boy she barely knew. It was natural for her to disobey her father
