How getting engaged changes your relationship

So he popped the question and you said yes.... now what happens to your relationship? It changes. You now start thinking of yourself as "Mrs. ______." That brings a whole new feeling and a whole new perspective to your relationship.

It can be one of the most exciting times of your life to dream and plan your future lives together. This is the time when you go shopping for a house or apartment and decide if you want to fill that extra bedroom with a bassinet or if you want to reserve it for the mother-in-law's visits.

In all seriousness, it is a time when you need to find out where you both stand on a number of issues. You aren't likely to find out if he squeezes the toothpaste tube in the middle or from the end until after the "I dos," but this is more the time that you find out where he/she stands on religion, children, finances, politics, as well as a host of other things.

You need to find out fundamentals before the marriage, and learning these things in a loving and sharing way can bring your relationship to a whole new level and give new depth to your love. Use this time to become closer and more in tune with each other.

Find out if you are afraid to ask any question or if you feel the freedom with this person to open your life up completely to them and become an open book. If there are reluctances to "come clean" or share things, there may be something that you need to find out more about before you take the plunge. After all, it is your entire life you are pledging to this person.

When you get engaged, you need to do some things for yourself that you have always wanted to do. After you say those vows, things will change even more. Your lives will be so involved with learning each other really learning each other that you will not have the time to do those things and they may become lost dreams. When that happens they tend to become regrets that you hold against your spouse after the years pass and you still haven't done them. Not a good way to start a life together.

So, take a deep breath, look at your brilliant future, and ride the euphoric wave of love. This is just the beginning of the best thing you will ever do.When you find love, and everything falls into place, nothing is better in the world. True love built on growing together day after day, experience after experience there is nothing more precious in life. Enjoy it together!
