St. Patrick's Day crafts and activities for kids

If you don't have much time, money or energy for crafting with the kids, paper St. Patrick's Day crafts can save the day. With just a package of construction paper, some craft glue and a pair of scissors, you can make just about any St. Patrick's Day craft you could imagine. Try out some of these creative, easy and fun craft ideas with your kids.

St. Patrick's Day Leprechaun Craft

Cut out some shapes from construction paper. Cut out a circle and rectangle from green paper to make the leprechaun's hat. Create a black brim and a yellow buckle for the hat. Cut out a pink or peach circle to make the leprechaun's face. Cut an orange oval to make the leprechaun's beard. Then make some eyes, ears and a mouth for him. Cut out green rectangles to make his suit. Give him some circular hands and feet. Make some green shamrocks to adorn his hat and clothes. Help your kids to glue the leprechaun together. Overlap the pieces, placing the hat pieces over the leprechaun's face and the face over his beard. Then glue his face on top of his suit. Decorate him with crayons, colored pencils or markers, if you like.

St. Patrick's Day Shamrock Card

Draw a simple three-leaved shamrock on a piece of green construction paper with a pencil. Then cut the shamrock card out from the paper. Draw a greeting such as "Happy St. Patrick's Day" on the front in pencil. Also adorn the card with designs such as leprechaun hats and four leaf clovers. Go over the pencil lines with green marker.

St. Patrick's Day Pot of Gold Craft

Draw a simple pot shape on a piece of black construction paper. Then cut some coins out of gold colored foil or metallic wrapping paper. Try to find different types of gold paper to create interest and texture in the craft project. Also, if you don't have gold wrapping paper, make some coins out of regular paper and sprinkle them with glue and gold glitter. Glue the gold coins on the top third of the piece of white paper. Then adhere the pot on top of the gold coins so that it overlaps them slightly.

St. Patrick's Day Rainbow Craft

Get a pack of 9 by 12 inch construction paper which has all the colors of the rainbow. Tie a string that's about 10 inches long onto a pencil so that there's about eight inches of slack. Tie the other end to a stick. Place the stick in middle of a piece of red construction paper and draw a circle. Then re-tie the string to the pencil so that the string is only about 7 inches long. Set the stick in the center of an orange piece of paper and draw another circle with the pencil. Shorten the string by another inch and then draw a circle on a yellow piece of paper. Continue this process until you also have a green, blue and purple circle. Shorten the string by another inch, then draw another circle at the center of the purple paper. Cut out each rainbow segment with scissors. Also cut out the inner circle from the purple segment

Set the red rainbow segment down first on your workspace. Then use craft glue to secure the orange segment to the top of it. Then glue down the yellow, green, blue and purple segments. Allow the glue to dry, then draw a line down the center with a ruler. Cut the paper in half to form a rainbow. Then cut along the inner line of the purple segment of the rainbow where it meets the red paper.

These crafts will definitely keep your little tykes busy on St. Patrick's Day. Be sure to save these crafts for windy, rainy days when the weather is too cold to go outside.
