The Words to the Songs
Many were the nights
we'd get together to sing -
two or three guitars,
and a pizza (or two)
and a couple of bottles of cheap wine.
We were a ragged band of flower children
singing into the wee hours of a new day
the songs our heroes taught us.
Songs of Peace and Love and Freedom...
Faithfully echoing the words
of Baez, and Dylan, and Seeger.
We believed...and life was good.
So subtly we never noticed, we drifted...
out of each others' lives
and into new ones,
with different interests and different people -
quite apart from what we'd shared.
Perhaps it was part of growing up....
But it seemed that as we grew Older and Wiser,
We also forgot
the Words to the Songs.

No need
I remember being young
And the pleasure that I had.
When life was good and romance was new
And the thrill of seeming bad.
Not
