FEAST
Blood trickles down Marlene's pale cheeks. It has already begun. Claire runs to the barn door and tries to pull it open with all of her might but to no avail. Marlene's eyes begins to turn blood red and her skin gets even whiter. Claire can hear Marlene behind her breathing shallow, then silence. Claire can no longer hear Marlene's breathing. She is wondering where Marlene is and if she still has time to save herself. She turns slowly as if expecting for Marlene to be behind her but, nothing. "Maybe Marlene is alright.", Claire thinks to herself. Maybe Marlene was just hurt and needed her help or maybe she was just seeing things. The more she tried to convince herself the more frightened she became. She would have to find another way out of the barn. There was a hatch at the top. Claire would rather jump down into the haystack beneath the hatch window than stay there for one more moment. She slowly began walking towards the back of the barn where the ladder is. She can hear rustling to the right and left of her. She wonders if it is one of the animals or if it's Marlene. If it were Marlene she would out run her and make it to the ladder. Claire remembered how she would always beat Marlene at races. They had so much fun growing up together and going to the same schools. For once Claire could not think about her manicured nails and jet black hair that was always wound into a tight bun now dangling to the side of her head. She was trying to get away from Marlene. Even though she and Marlene were sisters, Claire knew that Marlene was gone and what took her place was a horrible disfigured creature.
She makes it to the ladder and puts her right foot on the first step while grabbing the rails. She hears more noise to the right and left of her. Claire begins to panic while realizing how close she is to getting out of the barn. She begins stepping up the ladder as quick as she can. There is something ruffling beneath her. She can feel the long ladder moving from beneath her. She knows that there is someone or something coming behind her. She looks down but it is too dark to see, all she can hear is shallow breathing getting closer and closer. The faster she climbs the faster whatever it is behind her climbs. She has reached the top and turns to topple the ladder. A skinny pale hand with black veins and long sharp nails protruding from it grabs her from out of the darkness below. Claire begins to scream and starts pulling away from her attacker but to no avail. Claire is pulled down into the darkness, hitting the barn floor with a loud thud and in the darkness all that can be heard is Marlene feasting.
