If you're thinking of buying a new car, I will give you the same advice I offered my own wife & my step-mother; It's always better to pay a few dollars more to get what you want, rather than settle for something to save a few bucks, & then regret that decision, which is usually the case. This goes for the whole car as well as the individual options.

Most new cars offer a long list of optional equipment, with items ranging from power windows or air conditioning (yes that is an option on some cars), to upgraded stereo systems & DVD players, or sunroofs. You have to think of what are the best options for your individual needs. If you're someone who would never open a sunroof, then it's probably not the best choice for you, but if it's offered free as part of an option package that you do want, it's probably a good idea to get it. It will increase the resale value of the car, & no-charge sunroofs are sometimes included as part of an option package like that. If you want an automatic transmission & air conditioning, the Pontiac G5 (for example) includes power windows & power door locks with remote keyless entry if you order automatic & air. Those are nice things to have, & will increase resale value as well. If they don't cost extra, & they could get you more money when you sell, why not?

For some people safety is the primary concern, in which case I suggest you look at crash test ratings & air bags. Also look at features like anti-lock brakes (ABS), traction control, & stability control (known as Stabilitrac on GM vehicles). Keep in mind that the best way to survive an accident is to not get into one in the first place, so those safety features that help you avoid an accident are every bit as important as the ones that will help you survive one, perhaps more so.

To some folks, the number of seats is the biggest concern. If you & your spouse have 5 kids, then a regular car is not going to work for you, & a minivan or some sort of SUV is what you need. To some the most important thing is trailer towing capacity. To others it's simply a matter of what looks coolest, where others are concerned with fuel economy. When it comes right down to it, the only one who can choose the best options for you, is you! Everyone's needs are different & their desires are different as well. You may not "need" a certain option, but if you want it & can afford it, it might be beneficial to get it, or you may be wishing a month from
