Is real beauty on the outside or the inside?

Inside

by Shycora Smith

Beauty. What is beauty? If you look it up it says beauty is a characteristic of a person, place, object or idea. It provides the experience of pleasure, meaning or satisfaction. If it is only a characteristic why are so many of us so obsessed with it. Some of us will butcher our faces and bodies in order to acheive it, but that is artificial beauty. True beauty is deep inside of all of us.

Why would GOD create a being that he did not see as beautiful? He wouldn't. That's why beauty is not something you see, but it something that you experience.

Who determines what is beautiful anyway? Things that are beautiful to some may be hideous to others. If you ask a blind man what is beautiful I'm sure he would give a different answer than that of a man who can see. Sight cripples us. It makes us truly blind and lose focus of what is truly beautiful. I have seen many people who on the outside were gorgeous. But when I sat down to really talk to them they were hideous.

Many us of ride on the backs of our looks, but what happens if you get acid thrown in your face? After you heal, what do you have? What if plastic surgery can't restore your looks what will you do then?

We are too obsessed with this artificial beauty. So much so that when we start to sag a little we run to a surgeon or a botox technician. We go out and spend thousands on make-up that only worsens our skin! We buy the fake lashes and the fake boobs and we get the tummy tucks because we are scared of looking ugly.

God made us in his image and i'm sure he doesn't consider himself to be ugly. So why would he make us that way? I think everyone has a natural beauty inside, but society has made them believe otherwise. It's crazy even men are becoming paranoid about looking good. It used to be that they only needed to shave and cut their hair and just be well groomed. But now they are doing the same things that us women do. Whenever you go to the spas you see men getting the manicures, pedicures and the facial treatments.

It's one thing to take care of yourself, but somethings we do to look beautiful is really not necessary! Everyone do me a favor. Take off the make-up. Take off the lashes. Let the flab hang out. Don't go get the botox. Don't get the plastic surgery. Stand in front of the mirror and embrace the big legs and big booty. Embrace the wrinkles, crows feet and acne scars.

Say to yourself I am made in the image of my father and I am beautiful. No matter what any one tells you it's the truth. If you say it to yourself enough then you will believe it. Then you will see it. Then you will feel it because it is real. And then you will be able to see the true beauty in all things.
