Is Mr. Terrell Owens the worst player in the NFL today? By far, without a doubt, the answer is no. Will he be known as the worst there every was? Without a doubt, the answer is no. There are plenty that could take that honor, and I think Terrell would be far down the list, if there is such a list. Should he be out of football? Well yes. When his playing days are over, when he feels he can no longer meet the challenges of getting ready for games. When teams decide that he has grown old and they can no longer use him. Then he should and will leave the game, but not before.
Terrell is a gifted and talented wide receiver. He has the ability to change a game by just being on the field. If he is double covered or triple teamed, it leaves openings for the offense to do so much more. He can make that game winning catch. It may be the only catch, but it's the one that really counts. Just asks the 1999 Packers. They lost on a game winning catch by T.O. in a playoff game, when he was with San Francisco. And in the closing seconds of the game.
Sure Terrell has some issues. As do most players in the NFL. He may be hot headed and testy. He may not like the way the play calling is going in a game. And sure, he wants the ball more, who wouldn't? If you had the size, the strength and power to beat any cover guy, and the cover guy knows it, wouldn't you want the ball in your hands often? I would. If Terrell should go, then he isn't the only one. Randy Moss is on his third team and talking about going to another. He is a head case also. Pac Man Jones should be done for good. Ray Lewis, involved with a murder, still playing. But who is counting? If you are a talented and a confident player, you want the pass or the hand off every time. Ask any star guy or girl, who has ever played the game, or any game, when it was on the line, if they wanted the ball often. MY guess is, most would say yes.
If you are going to have a three strike and out for good, apply it to the drug users. I would much rather have a drug free player that wants to be the focal point in a game. A player, that when the game is close, is scramming "Give me the ball!" I would take the player who has the ability to change a game on every play, than one that is shooting up, snorting, smoking something, before or after the games. Those players draw bad press, and that press hangs around a lot longer than news of a guy upset he didn't get the ball enough times in a game.
