President Obama inspired Congress and Americans in his first speech to a joint congress. It was a speech filled with eloquence, hope, reality, and plan of action to move America to prosperity and a great place to live for all. We all came together as a country to meet the challenges of our times. America has done it in the past and will in the future. The spirit of our great country continues on.
Our president is indeed a gifted communicator but his gifts go beyond that. There was substance. He chose an outstanding cabinet to be his team. Democrats, Republicans, and Independents all have a stake in bettering America. We are all one and he is the president of all of us.
It is only the second month and there have been challenges in conflicts of how to deal with the economy but all agree on the fundamental importance of having a sound economy in our country and in the world. Isolation is no longer the solution. All we buy and sell affects the global economy. Our country is the engine of the world economy and all countries look to our leadership. We led before and can lead again.
There is no clear solution or guarantee of success as the president said. Inaction is not an option. Some actions will work and some not. One thing for sure is that it will be difficult and painful but in the end it will all be worth it since life in America will be more financially secure. Our country has been and will continue to be a land of opportunity for all.
We are a people of faith and the speech awakened that faith in all of us. Many of us are worried and fearful of the present and the future but our president sparked the faith we need to tackle the obstacles we have before us. Life has never been easy but we're coming from a time of financial exuberance. It sure was a great party but now we have to face reality and deal with it.
While he stressed that the economy is the fundamental problem to deal with, he also stressed the importance of improving our home life, education, and health. Social Security and Medicare need to be secured. Fraud must be eliminated. Health records can be more accessible by computerizing them. Cost effective ways need to be implemented. Non effective programs must be eliminated. More emphasis has to be on using resources to keep people healthy or getting healthier rather than spending money on curing them.
The challenges in our complex economy and the numerous social problems are overwhelming but not for this president. He seems to have the right stuff to deal with it and so do we Americans.
