Poetry: Never look back

by Alac Cook

Created on: February 25, 2009

Mistakes from the past haunt my heart,

vicious demons from inside, ripping me apart.

Don't look back, they say, don't look back.

So I keep walking on broken feat,

To much pride to turn in safe retreat.

Don't look back, they say, don't look back.

I head down a road I shouldn't be down,

it's too late to turn back now.

Don't look back, they say, don't look back.

Should I continue? Should I persue?

Should I tell myself they're right,

let them tell me what to do?

If I don't face what makes we break,

will that too just become a mistake?

Don't look back, they say, don't look back.

Am I too proud to say I wrong?

Is that why I'm on the road the road I'm on.

Maybe it's time for this journey to end,

but I wouldn't know where to even begin.

Deep inside is so much violence,

but I think I'll stay in stubborn silence.

I would face it, and try to embrace it, but,

Don't look back, they say, don't look back.
