Poetry: Last thoughts

by Alac Cook

Here I lay, I know I soon will die.

What point is there for me to dwell and cry?

That's the last thought on my mind.

Plenty of things I know I did wrong,

while I knew what was right all along,

That's the last thought on my mind.

So many roads I never took,

and beautiful hearts that I mistook,

That's the last thought on my mind.

Words I should have never said,

can't take them back when I'm dead.

That's the last thought on my mind.

Things I wish were left unspoken,

hearts I wish were left unbroken.

That's the last thought on my mind.

So many places I wanted to see,

never did, was always too busy.

That's the last thought on my mind.

Here we are just us two,

you hold my hand as I undo.

I know you're sad and you hold fears,

I do to, but please no tears.

In these moments I have left,

I want to live with no regrets.

When you feel alone is all you can be,

think of me and please,

remember these words I say to you here,

I will always love you and will always be near.

And as my heart begins to slow,

and we both know I have to go,

it's not everything I wish

I did or I didn't do,

the last thought on my mind,

is you.
