How to become a qualified poker dealer in the US

The excitement for Poker has grown from the small table at the casinos to large international events. To become a dealer, a person must be prepared for the task ahead. Professional dealers make the job seem fun and effortless but a great deal of skill goes into dealing a hand of Poker in the professional arena. An individual desiring to become a professional Poker dealer must have thick skin, be able to promote a positive image, and maintain a good relationship with their coworkers.




The set salary for a professional Poker dealer is usually very low with most of the money coming from tips. This is where all of the attributes mentioned before come into play- literally. An experienced Poker player can smell a beginner dealer from a mile away. If at any time speed or accuracy is compromised, it will be revealed by the tip that they leave- and everybody knows how tight a Poker player can grip their chips.




If you reside in or are relocating to a casino city such as Las Vegas or Atlantic City, and possess the basic knowledge of the game of Poker, a career as a professional Poker dealer could be rewarding. However, one must possess more than a proper address because the choice of becoming a Poker dealer is not one to be made lightly. People who embark upon this venture with little knowledge of the game or just looking for some glamorous job usually crap out after finding that it is not as simple as it may have seemed.




In most cases, a qualified applicant must possess a high school diploma or GED, at least one year of experience in the gaming industry, extensive knowledge of Poker rules and procedures, maintain a professional attitude and appearance, deliver above average customer service, and be able to work a flexible schedule. The applicant must also be able to pass a drug screening and a background check. If your criminal background is even remotely tarnished, then chances for obtaining employment in the gaming industry is slim.




The process for becoming a professional Poker dealer can be long, grueling, and competitive; but for someone who is serious, possesses a true passion for the game, and has a clean background; they could very well hit the jackpot. Realistically, rookie or short-time dealers have a hard time finding employment. Casinos are not in the market of putting their precious clientele in the hands of an inexperienced beginning dealer. They look for experienced professionals who know their way around the Poker table. In most cases, gaming industry experience
