Directed by Alex Proyas, Knowing is scheduled for release on March 20, 2009. Rated PG-13 and starring Nicholas Cage, Rose Byrne and Chandler Canterbury, it looks to be an exciting movie.
Opening scenes are set in 1958 during a dedication ceremony for a new elementary school opening. The students have been asked to place drawings of their ideas of what the future will hold in a time capsule to be opened on the 50th anniversary of the school. As all the children place their pictures in the capsule, one little girl, who is considered quite mysterious by the others because she seems to hear voices which whisper in her head, places her contribution inside. Instead of a picture like all the others, she places what appears to be a list of random numbers.
Jumping ahead, we are now at the 50th anniversary of the school and the time capsule is being dug up. As the capsule is opened a new generation of students examines the contents of the past, each student being given a picture to study. The paper with the numbers falls into the hands of Caleb Koestler played Chandler Canterbury. Being the son of a professor he shows the paper to his father John Koestler played by Nicholas Cage.
After spending some time studying the paper, the professor realizes the numbers aren't random at all. Instead they are an encoded message that contains the precise dates, death tolls, and coordinates of every major disaster that has occurred since the time capsule was buried. Along with this, the paper showed there will be three more major events to happen. The last being a doomsday scenario that seems to be directly related to the professor and his son.
Immediately the professor sets into action. After trying to gain the assistance of the local authorities proved to be useless, he did what he felt was needed and set out on his own. Taking matters into his own hands Koestler begins searching for the now grown author of the paper. After learning she had passed away he was able to track down and locate her daughter Diana Wayland played by Rose Byrne and Wayland's daughter Abby. With a great deal of convincing the professor was able to obtain the help of a reluctant Wayland.
As the time of the final disaster draws closer, the professor begins a frantic race against time. In the process he comes to relize that the safety of millions of people lies in his hands. He must make the ultimate decision and possibly the ultimate sacrifice. Is his life more important than safety of the world.
