Should lawyers be made to do pro bono work, yes. From the bottom of my heart I feel that lawyers should help others with pro bono work. Why you ask?
I have been in a bad place where I have needed a lawyer for my ex-husband and I had planned on getting a divorced , I just didn't have the money so I had to make payments. That didn't sit well with me. I feel that in many areas people don't have the knowledge and the money to afford a lawyer. They need help and the only way they will get help is someone give it to them for free. It would also be great to have a place to go where you can speak to them about.
Have you ever been to legal aid? Its a small place that has lawyers that help. Its small like I said. Its run by the government and they only have a certain amount of funds to work with. It could also help out the system with their backed up cases. The average time from for a case to be heard where I live is one to two years. That's if the case is a small one. Its more if its a major case. That's crazy. Fair isn't even thought of in that way. Most people in that case can't afford to wait for the answer they know is right.
Sometimes people give up on the truth, they just forget that someone has wronged them and that's wrong. Very wrong. They shouldn't have to give up. They have a right to be heard and having to wait that long can put a damper on the hole idea. Another thing could happen, the case load would be smaller I am sure. They could weed out alot of the cases that hold no merit. After awhile people would stop bringing silly cases toward others.
The other reason I feel that they should hep out is its the right thing to do. We as tax payers pay for their schooling with Sallie Mae and what not. They should give back to the community they came from. It should be they way of the world. If they are made to give up sometime I feel that they would be more aware of their surrounding's and try to be more.
Let's face it, lawyers have a bad rap. They are know as sharks, bottom feeders. Jokes are made in their wake, slimy this and slimy that. All in all lawyers would benefit from the added pro bono work. So I do feel that they should be made to give up some of their time up and they should be really into the case and give it their own. If they are found out that they didn't give it their all they should be fined. I feel that would make a big difference in our world today.
