The portrayal of vampires is an interesting subject and even more so these days with differing versions of what a vampire actually is. So I was very excited to see this latest movie based around vampires even though I had been told numerously from overseas friends that it's mostly a teen romance film. The story of Edward and Bella who are from two different worlds collide and why not throw in Jacob who becomes Edwards rival and Bella's best friend.
Funny how I saw the book on the shelves way before there was any talk about a movie and when I read the back which outlined the story. I originally thought that it wasn't my type of book. Now, I love vampires and am an avid book and film collector. But there was something about the book that didn't appeal. I think due to great media hype and the actors chosen for each character. A simple love story involving vampires and shapeshifting wolves that interact with humans has over night become a phenomenon. I was hooked line and sinker. I took my 13 year old cousin as I didn't want to appear too desperate to see it myself.
I had seen short versions of the movie on the internet and was completely blown away by the baseball game. And reading the book version of it just clarified it so much better though the scene was a little different. Which is expected because there are no movies that I know of that is exactly the same as the book version.
In a way I am glad that I saw the movie Twilight first before I had bought and read all the books. As well as the music CD album because I didn't have the expectations that everyone else did. I am also glad that I did my research and knew what to expect about the movie. Though the vampires sparkling in the sun light threw me off a bit but it wasn't a major hurdle to get over the concept. I have heard some people being disappointed because they thought the movie would have more blood guts and gore or that they were completely put out and confused because it didn't follow the book exactly.
Same thing happened and similar comments were said when the movie Queen of the Damned came out staring Stewart Townsend who played Lestat. I haven't bought the book version of that and not sure if I want to either. Author is by Anne Rice. But I do own the DVD. Why not by the book? Well I already own another book written by Anne Rice and even though I collect Vampire books, her versions are not really to my liking.
Which brings me to the point, that I will purchase the DVD of Twilight and any other future
