Delhi 6-

We're all like this. We get into fights, make up, and yet, get into fights again. But, no matter what, we're all an extended family, no matter our differences in religion or culture. That's how everyone is, right? Not really

Delhi 6 is an inspiring tale about an average Indian boy, Roshan (Abhishek Bachchan), who lives in New York, and comes back to Delhi to fulfill his grandmother (Waheeda Raman) wishes. She is sick and she doesn't want to die so far away from her home. Her son hates India, and refuses to go back to the same country he fled from with his Muslim wife. After a bit of persuading, her grandson agrees, thinking it will just be a short trip and they can return back home to New York soon, and maybe they can squeeze in some sight-seeing while they're at it! They return to India, and Roshan's grandma picks up her life, that she never wanted to give up. Roshan laughs at India's sights- the cows on the street, the daily showing of the Ramayana plays during Dusshera festival, and polo sessions with his uncle Beg (Rishi Kapoor). Before he knows it, Roshan steps into the chaos himself. He doesn't understand why the local police cop (Vijay Raaz) acts so much like Hitler, or how their cleaning lady is untouchable and why his uncle has built a wall in their house. Or why, the beautiful Bittu (Sonam Kapoor) would rather run away and be on Indian Idol with a total stranger rather than fulfill her dreams right at home. To add on to the chaos, there's a "Monkey Man" criminal on the loose. Roshan just ends up finding himself in the wrong spots at the wrong time, and gets accused many times for things he didn't do. There is a complication between Muslims and Hindus, and Roshan tries to solve it before they kill each other, but ends up failing. Muslim and Hindu religion fights still occur today. Seeing all the poverty, sadness, and receiving false accusations, makes Roshan want to fly straight back home to good old New York. Persuaded by his grandma to stay, he soon finds out he's in love with Bittu, so she becomes his destiny. He sets out to stop her from running away and tell her that he loves her. He dresses up as the "Monkey criminal" to scare away the stranger Bittu was running off with. The police find him in his monkey suit, and everyone thinks that he is the criminal, and they beat him up. Everyone gathers, and a few minutes after, they realize that he's not really the actual "black monkey". They panic, for he's having trouble breathing and has shed a lot of blood. On the way to the hospital, in the ambulance car, Roshan is taking his last breaths and at one point, stops breathing. The doctors keep trying though. (This is also where they show a heaven scene where for a minute he stops breathing and meets his grandfather in heaven). This is an inspiring tale that illustrates a fictional story of a man, who nearly gave up his life for his love, and brings together two completely rebellious religions and makes them a family.
