In case you didn't know this, there is someone that secretly covets your Scrabble game. She doesn't care that Zs are worth more points than As. He is oblivious to anyone cheating while tallying up points on the game board. The next time you come up short on scrabble tiles, check with your crafty friends. Does he have a mosaic table top made out of little square tiles? Is she wearing new earrings, suspiciously the same shape and size of a scrabble tile?
As is evident by bid wars on eBay, Scrabble tiles are quite a popular item. The reason for their popularity is they are just perfect for many types of craft projects. They are lightweight, have a pleasant smooth texture, and are very adaptable.
You can easily and quickly drill holes in Scrabble tiles with a small hand drill. Join the tile to an ear wire with a jump ring, and viola! You have an earring! If you want something a little more fancy, paint and/or collage the tile with your choice of colors and/or objects. The outcome can be as casual or elegant as you like. Drill a second hole in your tiles - one on either side of the letter, and link them together with jump rings, wire, yarn or string. You can spell out names, a favorite phrase, or random words. These tiles can be joined to a necklace chain, made in to a bracelet or used to adorn other objects. You can also use decorated tiles to make necklaces and bracelets, or even a ring!
It is very easy to glue magnetic sheets to scrabble tiles. Use the letters to spell out messages or your grocery list on your refrigerator. Glue them to plant pots or just arrange them on a shelve around your plants. Spell out uplifting words, and change them as often as you like. Scrabble tiles can also be used as monograms - either glue or use a jump ring to attach your initials to plenty of household objects.
Scrabble tiles are terrific additions to scrap book pages and hand made cards. Why not do a page on family game night , and spell out G-A-M-E with tiles? Or, try a page theme for a baby and use "building blocks" made from Scrabble tiles. "J-O-Y to the world," featuring Scrabble tiles can turn a simple Christmas card in to something fun and special.
The tiles can be left plain or painted and covered with photographs to make mosaics. Try covering some cork sheets with plain tiles to make coasters. If you feel more industrious, turn the tiles in to trivets or even recover a small table top with your old Scrabble tiles.
Hobbyists and serious artists alike have embraced Scrabble tiles for their projects. Many now use the tiles in altered books and assemblage, which are constructed from various items. For an astonishing work made from Scrabble tiles visit: http://www.sculpture.org.uk/work/000000100430/
Now all you Scrabble game addicts may have keep an even more vigilant watch over those fabulous little multi-purpose tiles!
