Poetry: Hope

by Phoebe Odingo

Created on: February 24, 2009

If you deny a child an opportunity, there's hope for tomorrow,

If you deny an adult one , he may never recover,

Hope springs eternal, for those who are patient.

A new day emerges, albeit in perception

Change is in the air, even through the recession

Hope.. the essence of life...

All adults are eager, for this ray of sunlight,

Hope they say renews, even those pessimists

Whose cup is always half empty.

Remember the man from Hope Arkansas

Perceptions changed, a surplus was realized

Then there is the enigma, hope renewed

His sign a sunrise, rising from the horizon

Change has come, for the world to see

White, black, poor and rich, the elite and the average

all clamour for a glimmer, just to be in his midst

The oratory aside, his positive vibe brings fresh hope

For every man and woman with young ones,

Our outlook changes, truly they can be anything

The future looks so bright, even if by perception,

There is something to hold on too, the world concurs

And a sigh of relief we all breath, at last some hope

Hope in the free world, hope for the poor and the rich
