You may not realize it, but becoming a good writer doesn't mean that you have to have some innate ability to write well. Becoming a good writer just means that you have to have a basic understanding of what it takes to become a good writer, the willingness to do those things and the opportunity to practice those things. Becoming a good writer is something that takes time, effort, and a real desire to make progress.
Here are some things that will add to a general improvement of your writing.
Master the language. More than anything else poor spelling and grammar will detract from your writing. The fastest way to see improvement of your writing is to master the language. Understand the rules involved in grammar and learn to spell correctly. If English isn't your first language, learn to recognize awkward sentence constructs and train yourself to write in a way that is much clearer.
Another way that you will see a general improvement in your writing is by taking the time to fully develop the thoughts in your writing. One of the best ways to do this is to outline. Before you sit down to write, make a brief outline about what you are going to write about. Make sure that the items in that outline flow in a logical fashion from one to the other. If you know the direction that your writing is going before you start, it will be much easier for your reader to see that direction when they read your article.
Practice. The most important aspect that you need to know when it comes to a general improvement of your writing is that practice truly does make perfect. The more you write and the more that your writing is out there in front of people, the more that you are able to get feedback. You need to be open to feedback even if that feedback isn't always positive. Any time someone offers a criticism, whether it is through the feedback feature on a given writing website or whether it is in a setting of a writing group be open to what those critics are saying. Those criticisms will, in the long run, help to make you a better writer and help you to see a general improvement in your writing.
In the end, there are no quick and easy ways to see a general improvement in your writing. You have to work hard, and spend some quality time working on your writing. However, with dedication, openness and practice eventually you will find that your writing will improve overall.
