If we were all narcissists, the world would be an ugly place. It used to be that you would never come across a narcissist. Now, I think we're all acquainted with at least one. It could be a neighbor, friend, family member, anyone. Narcissists are popping up everywhere these days. In the past 10 years or so, we seem to have gone from a good-neighbor society to a narcissistic society. This is a very sad situation.
My favorite example of "I'm more important than you" is about a 4-way stop sign. I think we've all experienced this a lot lately. So, you've sat patiently waiting your turn but as you start to go, the guy at the stop on your left goes, then the car behind him just blows the stop sign and goes on his bumper. When you blow your horn and throw your hands up in the air, he yells that he's in the right. Clearly, he's in the wrong but this is a personality trait of a narcissist. They will contradict cold-hard facts because they are entitled. They believe they are so important that everyone else has to either get out of their way or wait for them. They are so special that even laws don't pertain to them.
Some other traits that are associated with narcissism are that they care too much about appearance. Appearance being how they look and how they're seen as a person by others. They have to be seen as superior than all others. They are extremely sensitive to criticism. Criticism will send them into a crying fit or all-out rage, followed by them snubbing or harassing the person who dared criticize them. They don't like it but they are the first ones to severely criticize and hurt other people's feelings. They are never wrong. How could they be when they're the ultimate beings? How dare someone tell them they're wrong or criticize something they've said or done? Many of them think they have some special talent, perhaps singing, painting, writing, etc. They are the only ones that think they're so talented. Most of them are just average like the rest of us. Many of them are very much into religion. God only cares about them, so they'd like to believe.
In the narcissist's eyes, we are all merely peasants. We are here to be criticized and argued with. They are the only people who count in this world and they are the superior beings. Narcissists do not make good friends or partners. You'll always be looked down on by them. The old saying is "it takes all kinds". In a world with so many budding narcissists, I suppose this saying is true.
