Should cell phones be banned in restaurants? This is a rather comical question that would suggest some sort of a prohibition of mobile phones in a certain place will be effective. The question would be best described more as a social annoyance rather than a ban. For how long can we minus everything that annoys us from the world?
Why is it, that society still follows the common teaching that, "If thine right eye offends thee then pluck it out"? Even though that today we see religion as not the only moral guideline taken into account, we still see the same mentality shown amongst people. But not only is the mentality apparent, it also acts suspiciously as a call to arms, not to your fellow man but to what causes the offence. For example, if a friend amongst your circle of friend's steps on the toes of others, then the very first solution is for that person to be removed. This is only the case if the group's skills in dealing with this kind of issue are primitive. If cell phones are indeed the cause of some sort of social disturbance, which bare in mind is not detrimental to the point of harm, then it should not be subject to debate but rather fall into the category of social etiquette.

Most people follow this, and others do not. Those who do, enjoy a quiet movie without disturbance usually, and those who do not follow this usually are asked to have their mobile phone silenced. The purpose of this is because you are in a quiet setting where concentration on the film is required by a group of citizens. However, you would leave your phone in what-ever state necessary in your lounge room watching television. Cell phones are banned while you are driving your car. This means you are not allowed to be using the cell phone in the conventional way whilst driving your car. The purpose of this is because
