And as I'm looking a calmness sweeps over me, and I smile. This person in front of me can't hurt me anymore. I don't know him.
"Why are you smiling" he asks looking slightly alarmed and puzzled.
I go to answer his question " Because I've just realised"... then pause. " Because you've just healed my broken heart" I hear myself say.
He doesn't answer but I can tell by his facial expression he takes this as a compliment and he looks excited. "Does that mean?" he asks, moving his face closer to mine , beckoning me to answer.
"Yes Mark" , i reply. "It does mean.... I'm over you".
"Huh? " he jumps up and looks down at me with disbelief. "How can you be over me? You just said I healed you heart." , he questions me his brown his glazing over with tears. For the first time ever I don't want to comfort him. Tell him it'll be ok.
" You should go Mark, you've no reason to be here anymore. This ... my life, it's not yours anymore. I'm not yours anymore" , i tell him as I walk towards the door in an effort to emphasise my point.
"But you are mine Lynz, you are" he cries almost sounding like a child trying to win an arguement. " Your mine and I'm yours" he pleads. " Please Lynz"....
"No Mark that's the thing. I've just realised that you never where mine. You where always somebody else's guy. I just never knew it."I grab his bag in the hall and thrust it into his arms. " Here you'll need this" ... " and this" i gesture handing him the ring he gave me months before. A simple silver band with an inscription inside - I will always love you.Mark looked at me as though he'd been crushed.
"No this is your ring, the one I bought for you. It's yours. I can't take it " he says shaking his head.
"No Mark, it's not mine . It's the girl you lied to and cheated ons. That's not me anymore" I venture opening the large mahogany door for him to exit.
"Please Lyndsey I can change, I can make it better. I promise I'll never hurt you again." he begs clutching on my hand willing me to say yes.
"No . It's over. I'm done. We're done. It's gone. Whatever I thought we had... It's gone". And with that I closed the door on Mark and my past. " It's done" , I whisper to myself as I lean back against the door and smile. " It's done".
