Tips for hosting a summer grilling party

Summer grilling with friends and family is one of the best memories you can build. Getting together in a casual environment, enjoying good food, good fun and sun; you can't go wrong.

Well, actually you can go wrong. The idea of a bad grilling party seems difficult because grilling is pretty easy, paper plates and cups are easy and clean up is as easy as lifting the lid to the thirty gallon trash bin sitting on the patio. Following as many of the tips detailed here will help keep the party from turning south, while still keeping it fun and hassle free.

First, and foremost, get good meat. It is easy to go wrong here because your local grocery you usually use may not have the best choice cuts of quality meats. The key here is to shop around from time to time, trying out different meat departments in grocery stores. Or better yet, find a butcher shop. Even though they have almost gone the way of the dinosaur in most cities, butcher shops will typically have the best meats and will be stored and wrapped properly it's their livelihood. A nice cut of steak, still fresh and chilled, is going to hold a good shape with good color.

Meat in the U.S. is dyed to retain the red fresh look, but even red dye cannot hide spoiling beef. Any kind of discoloration can mean it has started to reach its shelf life. The more evenly red a steak or pack of ground been, the better.

It is easy to spot spoiled chicken and fish, with its slimy texture, and slight discoloration. Getting the freshest cuts of chicken and fish might be more difficult if they aren't spoiled yet. You might rely on the dates on the package or ask the butcher when it was cut and shelved.

Pork and sausage products are best left to dates put out. Don't get anything more than a couple of days old. Fresh port and sausages are absolutely the best when it comes to grilling. The other meats can be made tastier with spices, but it is hard to mask aging pork or sausages and you wouldn't want to anyway.

Once you have the meat selected, getting the right dinner ware and utensils will help the party along. Simple enough, sure, but you can go wrong here with flimsy paper plates, flat, overly sweet cheap sodas and brittle plastic wear. If you want to serve good food, go the extra dollar and spend on sturdy things and quality drinks to wash it down. Using thick, sturdy paper plates is best to hold a good cut of meat and the large size to hold the sides.

Leave the dishes out of the picture, because a good party can be ruined with an hours
