As a woman who has worked several different jobs before pursuing my education and dream of being a freelance writer, I can appreciate this title. I knew I had to write to it for the therapeutic properties alone.
I am not tooting my own horn, but I am attractive to other people. After working in gas stations, book stores and various food establishments I have endured more than my fair share of being hit on. So the first thing that comes to mind that I want to say is this:
I have to smile at you and be friendly. It is my job. If I am seating you at the bar and I smile and say "Good Evening!" Realize, I don't want to be your pal, I am not interested in you sexually or romantically. If I sell you gasoline and say "Thanks, Come see us again!" I am not stating a fact that I want to see you again. I have to be nice to you as an employee. Do not ask me out on a date, or for my phone number!
I would also like to say to rude customers I am simply doing what I have to do here. I don't come into your place of employment and screw with you. Wait your turn, and I will give you my full attention as soon as I can!
On that note, I don't make the rules. I do not own this place, I simply put in my time here and follow the rules my boss provides.
As a server, I have heard it all. On that note I want to say to all of those idiots who scream at me when there is an issue with their order, I am not the cook!
I am on a roll here, so on the subject of serving others. I want to say to the rude customers. Why should I run around kissing your fat behind and neglecting my other customers because you need eighteen different condiments, ice, napkins, and someone to hold your hand. Its not like you are going to compensate me for my time and effort, in addition to my politeness, when you are so obviously annoying the hell out of me! I work for tips, I do my best to keep you happy, and you are going to leave here without leaving a proper tip. Thanks alot jerks!
To those customers who go into a shop looking for something so rare no one has heard of it, and proceed to get angry when I cannot fulfill their requests. Why do you have to be so strange? Order your fruit bat food online, instead of looking for it in a gas station!
To the customers who like to scream I would say: You are in no position to verbally assault me. However, if it makes you feel important, big and powerful, go right ahead. You are the one who ends up looking like a jerk, and it says more about you to use such poor judgement, than it does my inadequacies.
To the rude customer who talks on their cell phone and holds up the line: Shut up already!
To the parents of screaming, uncontrollable children: Get the kids in line, or leave them home! Do not punish the rest of us because you are not the best parent in the world!
To some rude customers I would simply like to say "Go to hell."
