I have spent my whole business and writing careers working on the qualities of a successful manager today. The qualities change as the times change, but there are a few qualities that a manger must possess to make the organization a great place to work.
l).The manager sets the example, of making others in the department feel they count, their opinions count, their work counts, and is needed to succeed together. Everyone within the company feels like a manager of their effords, and wants to contribute to a successful company, and stay working.
2). A successful managet is l00% AUTHENTIC, she really cares for the organization, the people, customers, vendors, and anyone else assoicated with the company. She understands listening to the complaints, ideas, and insights of others from employees, vendors, customers, and others can make the company better.
3). Nothing happens without reinforcing good performance. Success in management means helping your people set some goals which will make them stretch, but, put a incentive in each one, and see how the production and results start of move up to record results. People enjoy setting goals, making the mark, and being rewarded. These are the skills all managers must have to keep motivating, inspiring, and believing that her people can do it.
4) You need to be a lifetime learner to succeed as a manager today. Just as the new college graduate, must continue to learn to stay employed today, you must be willing to become the "Dean of your own University" by learning all life long, to stay ahead of worldwide competitors, and the changes in the technology of the 2lst century. See you in class.
5) Summary. Know what you bring to the table, and keep getting better by building your skill set to the sky. Listen to everyone. Everyone is your teacher. Write your plan, and add needed goals according to your vision. See the humor in daily activities. Don't take yourself too seriously. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Learn new skills daily and use them. Work hard to get the results you need. Demand the best from everyone, and reward them when you get the winning results.
Be honest with yourself and others, you cannot buy your integrity, you must earn it by treating othrs fairly, and being honest in all your dealings inside and outside the organization. Once you sign on to a set of goals, give them the hard work and effort to reach them. You are selling your time by using all your time mangement skills, from the early day to the end of the day. Set priorties daily, and work hard on your #l prioirity, until you finish it, nothing builds your management reputation more than finishing priorities which are needed for your company. You have all the necessary skills and talents to succeed as a manager. Go for it.
