Is it possible to get pregnant with only one fallopian tube?

The fallopian tubes lead from the ovaries, where the eggs are made, down to the uterus. When fertilization happens it takes place in the fallopian tubes. The fertilized egg then travels to the uterus. Here it implants itself into the lining and pregnancy is well on its way. However, can this process still happen if you have only one fallopian tube?

How It Works.

Your body is a fine tuned machine. It works carefully and, under the right circumstances, well. One process that happens in the woman's body is the development of eggs. These eggs ripen until they are ready for fertilization. At the ovulation time in the cycle they are released from the ovary into the fallopian tube. They can come from either ovary at this time and the ovaries don't necessarily take turns producing ripe eggs.

Missing Fallopian Tube.

There are a number of reasons why you may only have one fallopian tube. Whatever the reason, it can effect how fast you can get pregnant. It is possible that it is your other ovary (which is most likely still in place) that produces ripe eggs. If this is the case, it won't be available for fertilization, even if all other conditions are perfect.

However...

However, it must be stated that as long as there is a ripe egg in the fallopian tube (which is bound to happen at some point) and all other conditions are prime it is possible for you to get pregnant. In fact, if you are trying, it is very likely that it will happen at some point and not getting pregnant would have nothing to do with having one fallopian tube or two.

Remember.

Remember, pregnancy can take time. It is true that some women get pregnant very easily while others wait and work hard at it. We got pregnant six weeks after we were married. I thought this meant it would be easy for me to get pregnant. Our second pregnancy took two and a half years of trying. Be patient. Just because you only have one fallopian tube doesn't mean it won't or can't happen, but it may take time (then again it might not!).

Getting pregnant is all about the perfect timing. The ripe egg has to be healthy and there in the fallopian tube. The healthy sperm has to make his way up to the egg and work his way in. The egg then has to travel down the fallopian tube to the uterus. With one fallopian tube timing has to be even more right since ovulation has to take place from a specific ovary, but that definitely doesn't mean it can't happen!
