How to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse
Face it, a zombie apocalypse could happen. Zombies are not only in movies, but quite possibly walking down your street at this very moment. Humanity as we know it may very well may be doomed.
Thankfully, while most of us will indeed die in the coming onslaught, pockets of humans will continue to fight for survival against the risen undead.
Here are some general tips that should help us all breath a little easier.
If the zombies are slow, shambling masses of rotting flesh:
Plan ahead
Traveling through the less dense zombie regions should be easy, since they are so slow and have a short reach. However, you should never be cocky around zombies. Bring a good weapon with you and make sure that any route you take has no corners to get pinned in.
Secure food and water
Do not forget that the apocalypse may be occurring for a long, long time. Find a supermarket or other such store that keeps large quantities of canned foods. Plan to eat any of the fresh foods until they go bad, then switch to canned. While supermarkets have first aid supplies, you are better off putting any injured out of their misery. If they have been clawed or bitten by zombies then it is too late. They'll turn at just the wrong moment and take your whole group out.
Secure munitions
Good weapons are often overlooked but can provide a decisive advantage for those still living. Guns should be used primarily for defensive purposes, to conserve ammunition. Locate your nearest gun store, pawn shop, or Wal-Mart and load up. You will want fast-action and/or wide area weapons that can provide an advantage should you run into multiple zombies at once. Clip-based semi-automatic pistols, pump-action shotguns, and any explosives will work well. Consider yourself very lucky if you stumble upon an illegal cache of fully automatic weapons. Sniper-style rifles may be helpful for taking out distant zombies, but will be useless at close range. If available, go for lightweight swords or sharp machetes in the event that your weapon jams or runs out of bullets. And on that note, grab as much ammo as possible.
Secure a sturdy, multi-story building
A good home base will make all the difference. The downstairs defenses need not be particularly strong, since you will be spending all of your time upstairs. Demolish or otherwise completely disable any easy methods of climbing to the second floor, such as stairways or elevators. Create a system whereby a person can only reach the top by exerting some
