Helium has come a long way in the last few years. People who blog have found that the difference between blogging and writing for Helium is that they instantly have a larger audience and can cover a wide range of topics all in one place. Blogs are usually devoted to a topic, with search engines optimized so that people wanting to know about that topic can find it. Helium isn't as insular and covers all areas of life in one place, allowing a writer to build up a huge portfolio of articles on their page which can be accessed by publishers looking for potential content for their websites.

Payment system.
On a blog, it is unlikely that you will gain financial reward. Blogs which do are usually set up by professionals with the know-how to be able to maximize hits. Unfortunately, for the average writer, they have to depend upon a set standard layout and this is rather restricting, and unlikely to earn anything at all. On Helium, the same articles can earn you money. All you have to do is to make sure that you have a rating star, and the potential for earnings then depends upon the quality of the work you produce.
Rewards.
Blogs offer you a little bit of personal scope and the reward you may feel is in the personal presentation of your blog. However, rewards at Helium are tangible rewards. If your writing is good, you get stars. If you rate correctly, you get stars, and starred writers stand a greater chance of better earnings. The rewards at Helium are much better than blogs offer, and recognition of good work is rewarded by badges, such as Premier Writer, Professional Journalist, Creative writing bronze, silver and gold. All these awards add to the weight of your page, though with a blog, the only reward you get is in passing comments from strangers or friends which are relatively meaningless long term, and offer no better financial benefit.
Bonuses.
There are no bonus payments on blogs. On Helium, with the promotions offered to writers, which change from time to time, writers are able to gain reward for writing the first article on a given topic, or for competing with others. It is this competition with others which keeps writers coming back, and makes a whole lot of difference. Writing on a blog is very solitary and insular in comparison.
Community.
If you ever had an email from member about something you wrote, you would instantly see the difference between blogging and Helium. The feedback of community is great.
