Metabolic science has advanced considerably in the last twenty years, developing more predictable results from what used to be trial and error. Modern discoveries in digestion and physiological recovery allow for better planning of diet and training in athletic medicine. The emphasis this has placed on physical well-being comes with a direct conflict in personal time and planning. Addressing dietary needs may require more time and resources than there are available.

Dietary supplements are often the solution for the time constraints of health and athletic needs. Many supplements are worth their weight in gold for their ability to promote good health however, the ideal solution is to add only where you are deficient in your normal diet. Replacing real food with supplements can damage tissue and create long term health conditions. There are a wide variety of multi-vitamins and protein supplements to chose from, each differing in purpose and quality. In selecting the appropriate dietary aids for specific health goals, it is best practice to first consult a physician or personal trainer.

The declining quality of food due to artificial preservatives and pesticides has created a popular need to include vitamins in your regular diet. Even for those with a sedentary activity level can benefit from a multi-vitamin. These can be found in a wide variety of formulas that tailor to athletics, age and gender. Ranging from a simple once-daily tablet to a combination pill formula, even healthy individuals with fairly inactive lifestyles should supplement their diet.

The recommended daily allowances published by the FDA are proving to be increasingly inaccurate as more is discovered about how the human body operates. A number of factors must be taken into consideration when calculating what substances, and in what quantity, the body requires. Consuming a variety of foods in proportioned meals is a good start in promoting personal health however, including vitamins in your diet will ensure that you are not missing out on important minerals used for proper bodily function.
