Guide to Optimal Sexual Health
Sex: One of the things in a marriage/partnership that can make or break the relationship. If you keep your sexual health optimal, then your sex life should never truly "die". Granted, as we age, it may slow some, but it doesn't need to stop!
Communication is key to any relationship. You should be able to talk to your partner about anything, including sex. Talk to your partner. How often you want it, where you like to be touched, where you don't like to be touched. Positions that you enjoy, positions that create discomfort. Talk about it.
Every relationship is different, with issues that need to be dealt with as diverse as the world we live in.
Medical issues (we aren't getting any younger and things just don't work like they used to), emotional issues (I just can't after being a victim of a sexual assault), family issues (when do you find the time with three kids?) It is up to you to make your sexual health your own and keep it healthy.
Couples with long term happy relationships are statistically more sexually active together than those who don't keep that spark alive. Do you truly set aside time for yourselves as a couple? An evening? A whole weekend? On a regular basis? A standing "date" gives you something to look forward to.
Have kids? Take advantage of their nap time. Together while they are napping? Go to bed yourselves. There's no rule that says you have to sleep! Are your children older and able to stay in front of a TV for an hour ? Get a "Do Not Disturb" sign and hang it on your door. All they need to know is that parents need time alone and if they see the sign on the door, respect it. Let them disrupt you if there is an emergency. Plan a special show to watch for a while. Give them something to do safely while your door is shut, locked and the sign is out. And yes the motherly ear is open and listening no matter how caught up in the moment you are. Kids are smart, so as they age, they know. They can and will help keep younger siblings occupied so you can have time with your spouse/partner.
Are there medical issues that need to be dealt with? High blood pressure medication, cholesterol medication, anti-depressants, can all wreck havoc on the libido and physical responses needed for a man to make sex possible. Check into natural alternatives if possible. Talk to a
naturopath before beginning alternative herbs that could help. Talk to your Dr. too as some herbal remedies do interfere with main stream medications. Eat a healthy
