How would you feel to be able to predict the future? How would you feel if you had in your possession certain dates that major disasters will occur? How would you protect your beloved ones? What happens when the numbers run out? Is really knowing everything?
Academy Award Winner Nicolas Cage has the leading role in the new science fiction thriller called "Knowing" that will be released in March 20th 2009. Alex Proyas is directing this highly interesting and promising film that made almost everyone, who already watched the trailer, to anticipate for the grand opening.
In 1958, the teachers of an elementary school request from their students to draw some pictures of how they visualize the future might be. The drawings were placed in a time capsule and now, 50 years later, it is time for this capsule to reveal a shocking secret.
The new group of students eagerly exams the old drawings, apart a young boy who seems confused. The boy holds in his hands a sheet of paper full of numbers in a seemingly random order. Nicolas Cage, the father of the boy, is a college professor named John Koestler who soon realizes that this numbers are nothing but dates and coordinates. Dates that have so far predicted, with extreme accuracy, all the major global disasters that have taken place over the past five decades.
That is only the begging. As John Koestler unfolds the hidden truth of the mystery numbers, finds out that there are three additional events that have not been fulfilled yet. The last date is the most crucial as it mentions a world scale disaster that will wipe out the earth as we know it. John and his son are, in some way, entailed in this.
John tries to warn the authorities of the imminent tragedies but no one seems to believe him. He decides then to take control of the situation and starts a race with time to prevent as much devastation as possible. The trailer reveals an intense scene with a collision of two subway trains that can be described only as breathtaking. Saving the world turns out to be a tough work as John faces a critical dilemma- he has to give up what is most sacred to him.
John tracks down the daughter and granddaughter of the passed away writer of the prophecy letter. They decide to help him save as many lives as he can making our hearts beat faster as the story goes on; a feeling that lasts until the end of the movie.
Alex Proyas, who also directed "Dark City" and "I Robot", promises a science fiction thriller full of spectacular special effects and constantly rising action. In addition, the director chooses to focus on the emotion the characters experience. That is why he chooses a Red One camera (giving a more realistic aspect) for a two-minute scene where Nicolas Cage is watching a plane crushing. Moreover, having Nicolas Cage on the leading role makes this movie something to wait for. Even the non fans of science fiction movies will eagerly watch this film. Enjoy!
