on their faces. It isn't so nice when they turn twenty and feel they don't need to work because mom or dad will rescue them.

6. Knowledge- Children learn the skills required to complete their chores. This is something they will carry with them through their lives. Unbelievably, there are adults out there that don't know how to clean their own houses. That is very disgraceful and there is no excuse for it.

7. Pride Of Accomplishment- When a child does a chore and receive the praise of their parents they will take pride in doing their jobs well. This is an important piece in the puzzle. Everyone likes knowing that they did a good job on something. Children are especially susceptible to this practice. If they take pride in what they are doing they will do a better job each time to please you. As they grow into adults, they will remember these actions and want to please their employers as well.

8. Going For The Gold- Once children have learned to do their regular chores they may volunteer to do more. Offer them other chores for them to accomplish so they can earn a "bonus". It could be a new toy or ice cream. This creates the thought in the child's mind that they aren't limited. When they start working they will realize that the sky is the limit. The more they are willing to put into something, the more they will get out of it.

9. Experience- Chores give children experience in doing specific types of work. Putting away your toys might not sound like something that you would take through your life, but children graduate from toys to other areas in their that will need attention. Teaching children at an early age will give them the experience to pull it all together later in life.

10. Following Rules- Children learn they have to follow the rules in order to be a good citizen. This is important whether they are learning this skill for school or later when they begin working.

Doing chores helps children gain lifelong habits that can only enhance their experience. Giving children responsibility raises their self-esteem and gives them a sense of being needed. Giving your children the gift of chores sounds a little over the top, however, that is exactly what you are doing when you require things of them. Be a good parent and make your children work.
