An introduction to Quickbooks

Over three million businesses are currently registered with Quickbooks. Ever since coming out in 1992, Quickbooks has helped millions of businesses organize their companies. Still, with all of its features, Quickbooks can be challenging to learn quickly so here is a brief introduction that will surely help you out as well as a review.

1) Installation

This is a rather simple process. Pop the cd into your computer and click the install and download buttons as they appear.

2) Set-up Interview

You must first decide what business entity form (sole proprietorship, corporation, partnership,) you will use. Once this is decided, you merely answer the questions is the best possible form. Next you will how to describe how you will bill your customers, whether or not your customers must have sales tax and whether or not you create estimates as part of your business.

3) Your accountant

Take it as far as you can without getting any help from your accountant. However, once you have completed the set-up interview and gone through the Quickbooks Start, you will probably require assistance. It is rather easy to do most things but can get tricky with fixed assets and payroll taxes. Unless you have taken several accounting classes, these may be too challenging. You will need to ask your accountant for a little help until you either completely understand it or simply allow your accountant to do his or her work on line/on the computer through Quickbooks.

4) My Personal Review

I actually took an accounting class as a junior in high school. In the last few weeks of our class, we started Quickbooks. We worked in teams of two to enter all sorts of company business data and actually even went through the set-up process by ourselves. Although at times it was challenging, we managed to make it through. If we can muddle our way through as high school juniors with limited accounting background, it shouldn't be too difficult for someone else to. The problem is the time it could take to fix all of the mistakes that you make and this is why I recommend after the set-up interview, contacting someone (preferably your accountant) who could help you and make sure that you do everything else correctly. You may eventually be able to take over the reigns on your own but many businesses actually let their accountants continue but on the computers. It makes life simpler for the accountants and then you definitely won't mess up or if you do, someone else will be responsible for fixing it.

With this information, I hope that I have helped you begin Quickbooks. It will be challenging, but is a wonderful program once you or your accountant understands it.
