As stated in a interview, a few weeks ago, Kele Okereke tells that Bloc Party will be moving away from the indie-rock that Silent Alarm possessed and more towards what their fans are hearing now. (Note:They are rated from best to still great)
Ares-8. This is a great first song because it really energizes people for the next couple of songs, while still keeping a mellow head. See "Listening to dead singers" chorus. I would compare this song to Price of Gas on Silent Alarm. I've honestly never heard a song like this; but this genre of indie-electronica is new and exciting.
Mercury-10-. This song is an acquired taste. The first time I heard this song back in July, I was upset. I was wondering why, and questioning how they were going to rebound from this. The I kept listening to the song on youtube and found myself singing along! It's seems kind of subliminal, but still good. "Mercury being in retrograde" is supposed to be a astronomical event, where it is hard for people to communicate. The music video still has me asking questions. I don't think anyone ever has made a song like this.
Halo-1. Hands down the best Bloc Party song I've ever heard. This song beats you up, but keeps you wanting more. The lyrics are inspired, and deep. The riffs are all property of Silent Alarm, but the lyrics are Weekend in the City. This song is very instrumental, there are very few lyrics. This is the classic style of Bloc Party, say little; but mean much.
Biko-6. A beautiful song written to a close friend who is dying of cancer. Nigerian for "dear," Biko wants you to stay positive in a dark time. A steady guitar riff. I think this song is written to help give his friend strength. "I'll keep writing these songs for you, to steal you from your grave." This very deep and inspired look at the slow/painful death of a loved one, is a song everyone should sing if they have a family member with a terminal illness. Instruments sounding similar to Waiting for the 7:18 or Vision of Heaven, but no lyrics come close to the personal nature of this song.
Trojan Horse-9. A song about someone pretending to something they aren't, and how the person who was fooled feels. The name of this song is very obviously chosen. Some synth/electronica blasting over Okereke's voice. A song that is very easily sung along to and very fun to listen to. Like Eating Glass would be a decent comparison, but I think Song for Clay would be similar as well.
Signs-2. Another song dealing with the actual death of a lover. Moakes
