Sunday morning Christians

When the phrase "Sunday morning Christians" is spoken, I can be pretty sure, that most would think hypocrite. The term hypocrite according to the Merriam Webster dictionary, means: a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion. A person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings.

In retrospect to this analogy, lets dig a little deeper. For all intents and purposes, most Sunday morning Christians, truly believe they are living life the correct way. They feel that they are better than most. They think they know the bible better, the interpretation of the bible better, and that no matter what they do, they aren't sinning. Oops, well maybe they do know, and believe that if they sin, they can merely ask forgiveness for it and all is well.

In my opinion, Sunday morning Christians, take Gods Word, and twist it, to mans idea of what is right and wrong. So in that, they are justified, if they gossip, or reflect something other than what others feel is Christian.

I am sure we have all seen, those that are decked out in their Sunday best, at the local cafe. With their smiling, happy faces on, talking about the person, who sat on the pew next to them, or their neighbor. For all intent and purpose, they really are on their best behavior, having just came in from church. Then on Monday morning, they are letting words fly, that would embarrass, most of us Christian or not.

They can spout out verses from the Bible, that they have memorized, and use them as weapons. And they believe that, as long as they know the Word, and can use it in this way, they are representing them self as Christian. It is a sad day when morality and sanctuary for a true Christian is questioned, only because, a Sunday morning Christian makes it to church without missing a Sunday.

Amy Grant, sings a song called "Fat Baby", that pretty much sums it up. But, this verse I think means the most: He's been baptized, sanctified, redeemed by the blood, but his daily devotions are stuck in the mud. We as Christians are to be Christ-like, that is what Christian means. We are to live by example, and treat others with respect and dignity, if we want it for ourselves.

A true Christian, will have that light shining even in the worst of circumstances, and will not waiver in their faith. I'm not saying that even the best Christian won't have hard times, or feel ashamed of their actions. They realize they have done wrong and know that if they continue to do the same thing over, it becomes habit. It will not reflect Christian values, and eventually, it their prayers will fall on deaf ears.

So to me the phrase "Sunday Morning Christian" means, a person who is so filled with them self, that they aren't filled with the Word. They are still of the world, and have no intentions, of living life as the Bible says they should.

I try to live by example and even if I stumble and fall, I know that the Holy Spirit, will convict me. If I am smart, I will listen to that tiny voice inside my heart, before I act or react in a non Christian manner.
