Poetry: Fantasy

by David Hebblethwaite

Perhaps A Dream

When first I came upon this place

A wondrous look did cross my face

As I stepped forth for better view

Of autumn colours of every hue

With eyes held wide I dared not blink

With mind in awe I could not think

For there they were all around

In all the trees and on the ground

Sprites did frolic and fairies play

How long I watched I could not say

For as I sat upon green grass

Was hard to judge how time did pass

When creatures came from forest wide

From nest and den from set and hide

Feather and fur and all that dwelt

They paid no heed to man there knelt

But time moves on this could not last

When sun does rise and shadows cast

With one last dance and one last song

And when I woke they all were gone

I'll not forget that leafy glade

Memories I have shall never fade

Was it as real as it does seem

Or as I slept perhaps a dream
