Movie reviews: Outlander

Who believes that some people can live forever? Who can also believe that those immortal people kill each other in order to continue to live forever? Such is the plot of the movie, "Outlander."

For those of you science fiction fans who can stretch your imagination far enough to enjoy this farce you must truly like science fiction movies. Then again, some people got the idea that horror movies, mystical movies, monster movies and futuristic movies should also be considered as being in the category of science fiction. Hogwash! True science fiction involves the use of gadgets that exist or technology that will exist at some time in the future, like space travel and/or time travel and all of the gadgets associated with such events.

Outlander is a mystical kind of movie, in that a higher being made those people live forever, or until one of those immortal people kills another immortal person. If you haven't already guessed, the last immortal standing is the only one who will live forever.

Is it a fight to the death for the entertainment of the mystical being? Your guess is as good as mine, but that mystical being must truly enjoy seeing people kill each other. So much so that there never seems to be an end of those immortal people who seek to kill the hero of the story.

In true martial arts fashion, the hero then proceeds to hack the daylights out of all who oppose him. At this point I should tell you the name of that actor but I could care less who he is, as I could care less if one of those other immortals hacked the daylights out of him.

Worse yet, there is no happy ending to this movie. In fact, there is no end to the hero either. You see, that was a pilot movie for a TV series about how an immortal hacks the daylights out of every other immortal who opposes him. Week after week he is the victor and I must confess that I watched the show in hope that there would be a replacement for that actor who had no personality and was overall not an actor in the truest sense. That was not the case and I simply gave up watching all of those people fight with each other.

If I was him, my magic gun, rather than my magic sword would serve that same purpose. My opponent would simply fall over dead and the fight would end in a matter of a few seconds. As it happens, he was filthy rich because he lived for such a long time and was wise enough to invest his hard earned money into who knows what. For that reason alone, I wish I was that person, even if I couldn't and never will be a Hollywood star.
