When I saw and read the question posed by this article my mind was instantly flooded with a myriad of thoughts, some of which formed instant connections with other thoughts. I was flabbergasted. Something about the question struck a deep cord within me. It was then that I realized I had to write an article on this topic.
The ancient Emerald Tablet boldly declares, "As above, so below." I believe this is true.
The universe as we understand is infinite. There is no apparent end to the universe we live in. Strangely, although no longer surprising, when I consider the human mind I arrive at the same conclusion. The human mind appears as endless and infinite as the universe. And I am left wondering if there may be a connection between the two?
"As above, so below," declares the Emerald Tablet.
The universe, as we know it, has always been "out there." While the human mind, as we know it, has always been here within our heads. The universe is out there "above" and all around us surrounding our planet, while the human mind is "below on earth" within the confines of the human body. But, what if our belief that there is a separation between the universe and the human mind is wrong?
What if the true reality in the universe is that one intelligent force which created the universe in the first place? That force we call creator, or God (as the religions of the world call it)?
How does that change our perspective about the universe, God and the human mind? "As above, so below," says the Emerald Tablet. What if there is no separation between universe, God and human beings after all? What if it is all one seamless one?
What do I believe?
I believe that the universe, God and the human mind are in fact one and the same force, and that the apparent divisions among the three are the result of human error - an error in what we believe about God, an error in what we believe about the universe, and an error in what we believe about the human mind, and in how we have erroneously categorized all three throughout history.
The Emerald Tablet loudly trumpets, "As above, so below," as if desperately trying to reveal to us a secret.
I believe there is no universe "out there." I believe there is no "down here on earth." I believe there is no human mind. Instead, I believe that all things in the universe are all part of one living and breathing and loving force of one. You can call it God. You can call it the universe. You can call it the human mind. But, in the end, I believe all things are one.
But you may be asking yourself - if that is so, why is there so much evil in the world?
I believe it is because the creator gave us free will - the ability to think and choose for ourselves. Thus, the evil in our world is not the creator's fault but rather the result of our individual and collective thoughts and choices. "Above all things guard your thoughts, for your life is shaped by them," declares one ancient book. And I believe it.
