Poetry: Regret

by Caydence Coe

Created on: February 21, 2009

The anger is over, the fire is out.

My pain is replaced with fear and with doubt.

There's a weight in my mouth, the silence agrees,

so my words are unspoken, and the breath in me leaves.

My tears are remorseful of the lies that we shed,

As I lay here alone, afraid, in my bed.

My mind wanders through all the 'ifs', all the 'buts'

Yet my thoughts are a blade, and its my soul that gets cut.

The night fades away, still no rest, still no sleep.

My heart lays in tatters, my body a heap.

My days, they are bitter, the time passes slow.

Reminders surround me, raining blow after blow.

I seek solace in spotlights, my ego to soothe

And I try to behave like I've something to prove.

At first you'll believe it, but you'll see through me yet

and know all that I'm left with, is the shame of regret.
